The death of Virex

Virex was a dragon lord, slain long ago during the dark time in Aeonith’s history known as the Lost Age. The fearsome creature made one more appearance in the New Age before being utterly destroyed in that cataclysmic event known as the Great Shadow War.
In the year 352 of the New Age of Aeonith, the Arcanian Empire surged north upon their campaign of conquest. Though they managed to conquer almost all the northern kingdoms of the lands of Bordelon, the peoples of the north banded together and the Arcanian army was eventually pushed back to its own borders. Making a last stand against the defenders, the Arcanian wizards cast mighty spells that cursed the land for miles around with disease and turned the sky into a perpetual night. There the armies of north and south prepared to engage the final battle.
It was then that the great dragon made his entrance. The beast landed amidst the armies with an Arcanian sorcerer named Zeal riding atop its back. The necromancer had used his powerful magic to reanimate the remains of the long-dead creature. Man and dragon began wreaking havoc among both armies, cutting a swath of devastation and killing soldiers on both sides.
The dragon was finally annihilated when nine brave members of a mysterious Order of monks engaged the undead beast. Though most were killed in the battle, their strange powers were at last able to disrupt the dark magics holding the dragon’s bones together. Its body was shattered across the battlefield, ending the dragon’s threat once and for all.

It is of note that Zeal, the powerful necromancer responsible for the dragon’s return, was not upon the great beast when it was destroyed. Although his body was never discovered, some tales suggest that he was seen battling the Arcanian Sorcerer-King Toth-Gadal upon a hilltop overlooking the grisly battle.
